ABOUT 'PULSE'
PULSE stands for Early Prediction of Preeclampsia Using Arterial Stiffness in High-Risk Pregnancies; a Multinational Study.
Preeclampsia in high-risk women is on the rise, given the obesity and diabetes epidemic, as well as later maternal age to accommodate career and life choices. Currently there are no accurate predictive tools for preeclampsia in clinical practice. The primary aim of this CIHR-funded study is to evaluate the utility of arterial stiffness and wave reflection parameters (‘vascular measurements’) for PE prediction in high-risk women with singleton pregnancies. |

Currently there are no accurate predictive tools for PE in clinical practice. The purpose of this study is to assess arterial stiffness during pregnancy in early pregnancy can predict the later development of pre-eclampsia together with other standard clinical tests. We will evaluate changes in the arterial stiffness in the first and second trimesters of your pregnancy and determine the value of combining these measurements with blood biomarkers and ultrasound imaging.
We are seeking to enroll women with a singleton pregnancy and at least 1 high-risk or 2 moderate-risk factors for preeclampsia.
